Mercredi 9 octobre 2013
---------
9 am: the
members of the Works Council summon all the employees to tell them what’s going
to happen during the day. They thank all the employees, who haven’t stopped
supporting and helping them over the past week. They say they couldn’t have
done anything without their help.
The members of
the Works Council are not used to this type of procedure and conflict. Even
though they have worked a lot with the employees to find arguments and know
what to answer during the meeting, they are scared. Certain employees ask
questions that cannot be answered for the moment: what’s going to happen next?
Are certain aspects going to be taken into account? The only answer that’s
given to them is to be patient.
A solidarity
movement is forming. The members of the Works Council tell the employees they
want them to stay behind the (semi-transparent) window of the room during the
entire meeting. What matters is to show that the staff is united.
They also ask
the employees to create 3 groups to work on certain issues that are crucial for
what’s going to happen during the afternoon. The groups are created very
easily.
In order to put
psychological pressure on the country manager, the employees decide to form a line on each
side of the hallway as a welcome for his arrival at 1:15 pm. Each employee
holds a sheet with a value of the company written on it. 2 silent and dignified
lines to support the members of the Works Council.
12 pm: lunch
break for everyone. The Works Council is ready, the 2 lines are forming.
1:15 pm: all the
employees form two 60-meter lines, “a guard of honor”, each of them holding a
value. The country manager arrives in absolute silence. Dear country manager, those who are about to die salute you. The country manager is confused. The members
of the Works Council are really moved by the sense of unity of the employees.
One point for
the Works Council in the psychological battle.
A group of
resolute people stay in the hallway to remain present.
2:30 pm: the
meeting of the Supervision Council starts. It is attended by 2 members of the
Works Council and the country manager. Two financial stakeholders also attend the meeting
by phone. The meeting finishes at 4:30 pm whereas it was supposed to finish at
3 pm.
4:45 pm: the
extraordinary meeting of the Works Council starts.
5:15 pm: the
members of the Works Council request the 1st suspension of the
meeting so that certain issues can be cleared up.
6 pm: 2nd
suspension of the meeting.
7:05 pm: the
meeting is over, and no question has really been answered by the country manager. On Friday
1st October, however, the country manager had summoned everyone to talk about
the announcement and many questions had been asked. The country manager, who wasn’t able to
answer, had asked the employees to gather all the questions in order to be able
to answer them at the meeting of the Works Council. He was supposed to work
with his lawyer to prepare his answers, but no answer was given during the
meeting.
7 :10 pm:
the members of the Works Council tell the employees—a lot of them are still
there—what happened during the meeting. They say that the meeting will start
again the next day, on Thursday 10th October, at 11 pm.
Since Friday 4th October 2013, the employees haven't had admin access to
the social networks. However, someone answers to private messages,
on behalf of Avon France, that these rumors are speculation.
