PRESS RELEASE FROM
RACHIDA DATI, MEMBER OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
October 11, 2013
Support to Avon France’s employees
Another
company is going to close, and other lives are going to be shattered, if
nothing is done.
Today, Avon
France’s employees asked me for help, because this subsidiary of Avon Products might
be liquidated. This company has been established in France for nearly 50 years!
127 employees
and 11,000 independent Representatives, who make a living by working for Avon,
might lose their job at the end of the month.
I fully
support Avon France’s employees and representatives, who are afraid to lose
their jobs. They must be treated with dignity and in compliance with the
Group’s code of conduct, which is promoted all around the world.
This
activity gives the opportunity to many women to combine professional and
private life, particularly mothers who raise their children alone. Furthermore,
it enables thousands of women and their families to live decently.
I know this
company very well. As policy-makers, our duty is to support these employees,
who are suffering this injustice, like, unfortunately, millions of French who
are already unemployed or afraid to be.
Profitability
cannot justify everything. We refuse to live in a society where men and women
are considered like variables one can tinker with.
I ask the Minister
of Industrial Renewal, Arnaud Montebourg, to take over the Avon dossier and
take all necessary measures to help these employees, in particular those many
women.
